Nollywood actor Jide Awobona has spoken candidly about the challenges of filming kissing scenes, revealing that an unpleasant on-set experience made him more conscious of hygiene and potential health risks.
Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM, the actor recounted having to perform a kissing scene with a colleague who had bad breath, describing the encounter as uncomfortable.
Responding to a question about whether he accepts roles that involve kissing, Awobona said in Pidgin English:”Yes, I have done it. But if you get that kind funny odor, I go japa oo. I no fit kiss you.”
When the interviewer asked if he had ever acted alongside someone with bad breath, the actor confirmed the experience.”Yes, I don act with somebody wey get mouth odor. And I go one place go wash my mouth. And the person con see me.”
Beyond the awkward moment, Awobona said the incident highlighted broader concerns about hygiene and health during intimate scenes on movie sets.
According to him, actors often perform close-contact scenes without knowing the health status of their co-stars, a situation he believes could expose them to avoidable risks.”I just dey pray make person no go contact something because I don tire,” he said.
While Awobona did not reveal the identity of the actress involved, his remarks have sparked conversations about hygiene practices, health precautions and professional standards during the filming of intimate scenes in Nollywood.
