Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed why he chose to retain his number 45 jersey at Galatasaray instead of taking the club’s iconic number nine shirt ahead of the new season.
The Nigerian forward became a permanent Galatasaray player last summer after an impressive loan spell and has quickly established himself as a key figure for the Turkish champions.
His outstanding performances sparked speculation that he would inherit the number nine shirt previously worn by Mauro Icardi, but Osimhen has opted to continue with the number 45 during pre-season.
Explaining his decision, the striker said the shirt number has brought him success since arriving at Rams Park.
“I believe that you will sell more shirts, but I believe you will understand my perspective. The number 45 has been lucky for me at Galatasaray,” Osimhen stated via Sabah.
“I wish to continue with the same number,” he added, firmly declining the number 9.
Since making his move from Napoli permanent, Osimhen has become a fan favourite and recently opened his pre-season scoring account in Galatasaray’s 3-3 draw against Rennes in Istanbul.
The forward will now look to maintain his form as the Turkish champions prepare for the new campaign.
