Ukraine has carried out long-range drone attacks on two Russian oil refineries, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said, as Moscow reported a major wave of Ukrainian drone strikes across several regions.
Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian military struck refineries in Bashkortostan and Yaroslavl, with local reports in Yaroslavl showing large clouds of black smoke over the city.
The governor of Yaroslavl region, Mikhail Yevrayev, described the incident as the “largest ever attack by enemy drones” on the region.
Yevrayev said Russian air defences had destroyed 92 drones and reported that three homes caught fire following the attacks.
Russia’s military said it had intercepted and destroyed 605 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including Yaroslavl.
Ukraine has intensified its campaign against Russian infrastructure in recent weeks, targeting facilities including oil refineries, warehouses and power infrastructure as the war continues.
The latest attacks came as Russia continued its own aerial campaign against Ukraine.
Officials in Ukraine said three people were killed in a Russian drone attack on a residential area.
In the Kharkiv region, a Russian strike on a railway station killed two people and injured eight others, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.
Syniehubov said some of those injured were in serious condition.
The latest Russian attacks have also damaged schools, government offices and residential buildings across Ukraine, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukraine has similarly stepped up attacks on infrastructure inside Russia, including power facilities.
Both Moscow and Kyiv have denied deliberately targeting civilians during the conflict.
