Lawmakers confirm 32 pupils taken from classroom and 10 others abducted from nearby homes as security agencies launch response in Askira-Uba….
At least 42 children are now confirmed missing following a violent attack on Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Mussa village, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, in a renewed wave of school abductions in Nigeria’s north-east.
The incident occurred on Friday when suspected Islamist militants stormed the school during school hours, triggering panic among pupils, teachers and residents.
Initial reports suggested an unspecified number of pupils were taken, but fresh details have now clarified the scale of the attack.
Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District, disclosed that school authorities confirmed 32 students were abducted directly from the school premises, while an additional 10 children were seized from their homes in the surrounding community.
The development brings the total number of missing children to at least 42, heightening concerns over the safety of schools in areas affected by long-running insurgency activity.
The attack has once again exposed persistent security challenges in parts of Borno State, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted educational institutions and rural communities.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies including the Nigerian Police and military authorities had yet to release an official statement on the incident or confirm rescue efforts.
The latest abduction adds to growing fears among residents over renewed militant activity in the region, where schools often operate under heavy security risks despite ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
