FCT minister says infrastructure projects will continue unabated as administration targets a dramatic facelift of the capital before Tinubu’s first term ends….
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured Abuja residents that the pace of infrastructure development in the nation’s capital will not be affected by political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Tuesday during the commencement of the construction of service carriageways along the Southern Parkway corridor, Wike said the FCT Administration remains committed to delivering critical projects aimed at transforming Abuja, irrespective of the political calendar.
The project, which stretches from Arterial Road S20, popularly known as Oladipo Diya Way, to Ring Road II, is among several infrastructure initiatives being commissioned and launched as part of activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.
Addressing concerns that government attention could shift toward electioneering campaigns in the coming months, Wike insisted that development efforts would continue without interruption.
According to him, questions have been raised about whether the administration would scale back project execution as the country gradually enters another political season. However, he maintained that governance and development must remain a priority.
“We have heard people ask whether the focus on projects will stop now that political activities are beginning to gather momentum. The answer is no,” Wike said.
He stressed that the administration’s mandate is to continue implementing the President’s vision of modernising the Federal Capital Territory and improving public infrastructure for residents.
The minister expressed optimism that Abuja would undergo a remarkable transformation before the end of President Tinubu’s first term, pointing to the numerous road, transportation and urban renewal projects currently underway across the city.
Wike said the ongoing investments are designed to enhance mobility, boost economic activity and improve the overall living standards of residents in the capital.
He further projected that by May 2027, Abuja would look significantly different from what it is today, citing the scale of development currently being executed across key districts and corridors.
President Tinubu was represented at the event by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who joined government officials and stakeholders for the flag-off ceremony.
The Southern Parkway carriageway project forms part of a broader infrastructure drive being championed by the FCT Administration, with authorities describing it as a crucial step toward improving connectivity and easing traffic movement within the capital city.
As political discussions ahead of the next general election continue to intensify, the FCT minister insists that project delivery not politics will remain the administration’s primary focus.
