With talks of new political alliances intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections, the Obidient Movement has sought to reassure supporters over Peter Obi’s next political steps.
The group, which backs the former Anambra State Governor, reacted to reports suggesting he may be considering a move from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as new political alignments continue to emerge.
The clarification follows reports linked to the Anambra chapter of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which announced the defection of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to the NDC. The development has fuelled claims of a possible political alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso, including a joint presidential ticket arrangement.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yinusa Tanko, said Obi is currently in broad consultations with political stakeholders, allies, and associated movements across the country.
According to him, the discussions are aimed at determining the most viable political direction that aligns with the interest of Nigerians and the broader goal of national renewal.
He urged supporters to disregard unverified reports, stressing that no final decision has been taken regarding any political realignment.
Tanko added that Obi remains committed to his reform agenda and would, at the appropriate time, formally brief supporters and the public on the outcome of ongoing consultations and his future political direction.
