Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has shared how his parents initially doubted the source of his wealth after he gifted them a luxury home in Lekki following his rise to fame in 2019.
Speaking during an interview on the YACN podcast, the “Zanku” crooner said his parents were surprised by the gesture and questioned whether his music career alone could finance such an expensive property.
According to him, their reaction reflected concern rather than celebration, as they sought reassurance about the legitimacy of his earnings.
“When I blew up in 2019, I bought my first house in Lekki and decided to gift it to my parents,” he said. “They were like, ‘A house? That’s not possible. Are you doing something else apart from music?’”
Zlatan explained that his parents requested time to pray and verify the situation, expressing doubts about how he could afford a multi-million-naira property within a short period.
The rapper admitted that their response left him hurt, especially as he had prioritised their comfort after achieving success.
To address their concerns, he said he provided proof of his income, including his bank statements, to demonstrate that his earnings were legitimate and derived from his music career.
The revelation offers insight into the challenges some young entertainers face in gaining trust and acceptance, even from close family members, after sudden financial success.
