Nigerian rapper Zlatan Ibile has taken a swipe at the government over the worsening economic conditions in the country, accusing leaders of failing to address the hardship faced by ordinary citizens.
Speaking during an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce in the UK, Zlatan expressed frustration over how Nigerians have become accustomed to hardship without meaningful intervention from authorities.
“We are used to it [suffering and smiling], that’s how it has always been, and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” the rapper lamented.
Zlatan’s comments came in response to British rapper Dave’s recent satire highlighting the stark contrast between Nigeria’s elite clubgoers and the impoverished beggars often seen outside these venues.
The Zanku crooner also expressed concern that some beggars in the country have turned begging into a permanent lifestyle, despite receiving support from well-meaning Nigerians, including celebrities.
“Some of them have made begging a career,” he said, adding that the growing sense of entitlement among certain individuals was “annoying.”
He urged street beggars to embrace productive and dignified ventures, stressing that self-reliance was the only sustainable way out of poverty.
Zlatan’s remarks echo growing public frustration over Nigeria’s economic situation, as inflation, unemployment, and rising costs of living continue to strain households across the country.
