Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, on Thursday presented a proposed N861bn budget for the 2026 fiscal year before the State House of Assembly, outlining an ambitious spending plan aimed at accelerating development across key sectors.
Tagged the “Budget of Stability and Growth,” the proposal allocates a substantial N715bn to capital projects, representing 83% of the total budget—signaling the administration’s strong focus on infrastructure expansion and long-term investments.
Recurrent expenditure is pegged at N147.2bn, accounting for 17% of the total.
Governor Lawal disclosed that the health and agriculture sectors received the largest allocations, with each set to gulp N87bn, reflecting the government’s priority to strengthen healthcare delivery and boost food production.
Other key sectoral allocations include:
Education: N65bn
Public Order and Safety: N45bn
Environmental Protection: N22bn
Social Protection: N17bn
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to its mandate of rescue, reform, and revival, Lawal said the government has worked diligently to rebuild public confidence, rejuvenate critical institutions, and lay a firm foundation for sustainable development.
“The people of Zamfara State, who once despaired under neglect, now see visible light, progress, accountability, and renewed direction,” he said.
The governor described the 2026 budget as more than a financial outline, but a political commitment to deepen stability in governance and fast-track growth across the state.
According to him, the budget is designed to consolidate the gains of the government’s Six-Point Rescue Agenda, particularly in strengthening security architecture, modernising agriculture, enhancing healthcare systems, and expanding access to quality education.
The proposal also prioritises infrastructural renewal, youth and women empowerment, and the upliftment of vulnerable populations.
“It is a budget that prioritises inclusive development so that no ward, village, or community is left behind,” Lawal concluded.
