Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare, has thrown his weight behind the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, describing it as a transformative project for education and healthcare in the state.
The governor made his position known during the official inauguration of the institution’s pioneer Vice Chancellor in Abuja. Represented by the Head of Service, Yakubu Sani Haidara, Lawal said the university would not only expand access to advanced medical training but also position Zamfara as a hub for healthcare innovation.
He commended Senator Ikira Aliyu Bilbis, representing Zamfara Central, for spearheading the effort that led to the establishment of the university.
The inauguration, held on Wednesday, May 11, 2025, at the Federal Ministry of Education, featured the presentation of the appointment letter to Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as the first Vice Chancellor.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, hailed the milestone as the dawn of a new era for Tsafe, while Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, noted that the university’s creation was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen higher education and fast-track regional development.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Yakasai pledged to build a strong foundation for the university, promising to provide a safe and conducive environment for learning and to steer the institution toward global standards in medical education and technological innovation.
He also called on stakeholders and the host community to rally behind the vision.
The Tsafe university, the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria, integrates medicine and technology to drive innovation in healthcare.
