Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has publicly criticised Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni, questioning the broadcaster’s conduct and credibility in a video that has gained traction across social media platforms.
In the circulating clip, Edochie referenced a past incident in Lagos involving Oseni, who was reportedly stopped for driving on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane. The actor suggested that the broadcaster’s reaction at the time undermines his authority to challenge political figures and guests on national television.
Edochie claimed that when traffic officials confronted Oseni over the alleged violation, the presenter reacted angrily rather than apologising. According to him, the situation only changed after a video of the encounter surfaced online.
The actor argued that the broadcaster’s initial response raised questions about accountability, noting that the public apology that followed appeared to come only after the incident became widely circulated.
Beyond the traffic episode, Edochie also took issue with Oseni’s interviewing style on television. He accused the Arise TV presenter of treating guests in a manner he described as confrontational and disrespectful.
According to the actor, guests invited for interviews should be treated with courtesy and made to feel comfortable during discussions. He questioned the appropriateness of telling guests they could leave the studio if they felt uneasy during an interview.
Edochie further criticised what he characterised as a pattern of harsh questioning and remarks directed at interviewees on national television, arguing that such an approach does not reflect the principles of responsible journalism.
During the video, the actor also spoke in defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging critics to show respect for the office of the President and allow time for the administration to deliver on its policies.
Edochie stressed that Tinubu, who assumed office as Nigeria’s president, deserves patience from citizens and commentators alike. He added that national development takes time and should not be judged prematurely.
The video has continued to circulate widely online, sparking debate among social media users about media ethics, political commentary, and the conduct of public figures.
