The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission says it is ready for mass voter registration starting March 30. But with turnout among young people remaining low, IEBC fears the Sh1.1 billion set aside for the one-month exercise could go to waste if citizens fail to register.
At the same time, the electoral body is raising concern over repeated cuts to its voter mobilization budget, saying the low numbers turning up are partly as a result of limited funding and the absence of sustained civic engagement to encourage public participation in democratic processes.
