A 23-year-old mother of a newborn has finally been discharged from a city hospital, where she had been detained over an unpaid medical bill.
Scovia Halima developed post-natal complications and underwent four surgeries, leaving her with a bill of 2.3 million shillings. Moved by her situation, well-wishers came together to raise the funds needed for her release.
Her story also caught the attention of Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who held urgent talks with the Social Health Authority and hospital administrators.
