Nigerian media personality Chinedu Ani Emmanuel has argued that financial status plays a major role in determining influence and respect in Nigerian society.
Nedu made the remark during a conversation with media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo on a recent podcast interview.
Wealth and Influence in Society
While discussing the impact of money on social values, Nedu suggested that people in Nigeria are less likely to view individuals without financial success as role models.
According to him, the current social climate places significant importance on wealth, often overshadowing other qualities such as character or achievements.
“You can’t be a role model when you don’t have money in Nigeria,” he said in a snippet from the interview that he later shared on Instagram.
Comments on Lifestyle in Lekki
Nedu also made a controversial claim about residents of Lekki, one of Lagos’ most affluent neighbourhoods.
He alleged that many women living in the area rely on financial support from men to cover their rent.
“Most women wey dey live for Lekki, na men dey pay their rent,” he stated during the discussion.
Debate Over Social Values
The comments have sparked conversations online about societal expectations, wealth, and the pressures associated with maintaining certain lifestyles in urban centres.
Nedu’s remarks add to a broader debate about how financial status influences public perception and leadership in Nigeria.
