The Yobe State House of Assembly has launched an investigation into alleged misconduct among health workers and a shortage of medical personnel in state-run hospitals.
Speaker, Chiroma Mashio, announced the probe as the assembly resumed from its annual recess, citing concerns that staff behaviour and personnel deficits could undermine healthcare delivery in the state.
“While the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni has made notable progress in the health sector, the complaints from members of the public require thorough scrutiny to ensure effective solutions are put in place”, Mashio said.
The investigation will be led by Deputy Speaker Ya’u Dachia, with committee members including Ahmed Musa Dumbol, Kachalla Ajiya Maina, Sanda Kara Bade, Saminu Musa Lawan, and Mohammed Ali.
The committee is expected to examine allegations of staff misconduct, evaluate gaps in staffing levels, particularly among doctors, and recommend measures to strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
Mashio added that the legislative oversight aims to balance recognition of achievements in the sector with accountability, ensuring that challenges affecting patient care are addressed promptly.
