Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has sparked debate with his recent claim that no female actor in the industry can afford a Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, popularly known as a G-Wagon, from acting alone.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast, Solade argued that Nollywood does not generate enough income to support such high-end purchases.
“It is possible from producing, but not from acting, except they have side hustle,” he said. “How much are they going to pay you for acting, 50 million? Then again, some are gifts, I want to believe so. Yes now, dem fit gift person G-Wagon.”
The actor’s remarks highlight long-standing conversations around pay disparity and income levels in Nigeria’s movie industry, where many performers are believed to rely on endorsements, business ventures, or other sources of income outside acting.
Solade, known for his outspoken views, was recently in the news after saying his life had improved since he stopped attending church.
His latest comments have reignited discussion about Nollywood’s economic realities and the lifestyles often associated with its stars.
