Actor Yemi Remi has alleged that his late younger brother, veteran actor Chief Kanran, misrepresented personal hardships to the public to solicit financial help.
Speaking in an interview with Agbaletu TV, Remi addressed several controversies surrounding Kanran before his passing. He claimed the actor made false reports about sensitive matters, including his wife’s death, a house fire, a burnt car, and even his age.
“There was a time a woman called me to mourn my younger brother’s wife’s death, and I told her I didn’t know anything about it,” Remi said. “She said he sent her an obituary, but I told her it was a lie.”
Remi also clarified details about Kanran’s children, stating that the actor had four children with different women, and while he had earlier declared three of them dead, they had actually passed away later.
On the matter of property, Remi explained that a fire Kanran mentioned never destroyed his apartment. “There was a plank staircase in front of the building that got burnt, but it didn’t affect his apartment,” he said.
Regarding age, Remi said Kanran often exaggerated his years. “He told some people he was 75. If that were true, I would be 89, because I have two younger siblings after him. I will be 70 next year. He was 62 — he was born in 1963,” Remi clarified.
These revelations shed new light on the personal and public life of the late actor, sparking discussion about truth and perception in Nollywood’s celebrity culture.
