Afrobeats powerhouse Yemi Alade has opened up about why she has not yet collaborated with fellow Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage, despite years of public speculation and fan requests.
Speaking on the With Chude podcast, Yemi clarified that her decision was driven by a desire to avoid unnecessary controversy, not animosity.
“I’ve had collaborations with Omawumi, Waje, and even Seyi Shay. I’ve also worked with amazing female African artists around the world, my song ‘Come and See My Mother’ was with MzVee from Ghana,” she said.
While affirming her commitment to supporting women in the industry, Yemi admitted she has deliberately stayed away from a Tiwa collaboration because of the potential drama surrounding it.
“I’m a big champion for female collaborations, you know. But I know that a fan favourite is the one you mentioned (Tiwa Savage). I’d rather just stay clear. I don’t want problems in my life,” she said.
The Johnny crooner stressed that there’s no existing rift between her and Tiwa Savage, only a conscious choice to avoid fan and media speculation that could distort their relationship.
“You know, the thing is that most times, fans and media just tend to stir the waters where the water is supposed to be still. I’m not trying to make something out of nothing because there is literally no problem at all,” she explained.
Yemi’s comments come after years of public debate about the dynamic between the two Afrobeats icons, both of whom have led the charge in putting Nigerian female artists on the global stage.
Her remarks highlight the pressure female entertainers face in an industry that often pits women against each other, even when mutual respect exists behind the scenes.
By choosing peace over perception, Yemi Alade reinforces her reputation as one of Afrobeats’ most grounded and self-aware voices.
