The 40th and final tournament on the DP World Tour regular schedule tees off at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in South Korea this week – with plenty riding on it.
A matrix of competitive dynamics makes the Genesis Championship an engrossing affair.
It is the last chance for players to secure their playing cards for next year’s tour by finishing in the top 115 in the Race to Dubai rankings. It’s also the last chance to get into the top 70 and crack the nod for the first of the Race to Dubai playoffs – in Abu Dhabi in a fortnight’s time.
Finally, there’s a weighty $4-million in prize money.
Big names in the field include Hideki Matsuyama (11.10 favourite to win), Si Woo Kim (11.60), Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen (14.40), Sung-jae Im (15.90) and Adam Scott (16.30).
Those odds tell us bookmakers foresee a tight contest.
Several who did well in last week’s tournament in India will be hoping to keep the form rolling, among them Keita Nakajima (22.50), who was runner-up to Tommy Fleetwood in Delhi.
South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence (24.50) tied for third in India, as did Alex Fitzpatrick (48.00). Precocious talent Martin Couvra (50.00) has been prominent all year and caught the eye again last week.
Familiar names on the top-115 cusp include Freddie Lacroix (62.00), who was joint 17th last week. Others with their futures on the line are SA’s Casey Jarvis (130.00), Bernd Weisberger (74.00), Scott Jamieson (195.00) and Yannik Paul (210.00).
Those battling to keep their cards will take inspiration from Marco Penge. This time last year the Englishman holed a two-metre putt on the final green to keep his card by a single shot. This year he has won three times on the DP World Tour, climbed into the world’s top 30 and landed an invitation to the 2026 Masters.
