Actress and comedian Wofai Fada has offered a personal perspective on Valentine’s Day, highlighting the importance of creating meaningful experiences for others.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Fada explained that her celebrations often focus on serving people and ensuring others feel valued. “Planning a Valentine’s menu, trying to get them together; you don’t even think about yourself. Over the years, every Valentine’s, this is what we do,” she said. She shared that her restaurant has hosted proposals and live performances, turning the day into an opportunity to make others happy.
For her personal life, Fada and her husband prefer private celebrations after the holiday. “After Valentine’s Day, we plan to take a hotel room, so we can enjoy other people’s services. Everything I’m talking about is what we do most weekends, so I don’t want people to think we’re going out specifically for Valentine’s Day,” she noted.
This year, her celebrations coincided with the opening of a new branch of her restaurant brand, JustAfang, in Abuja. Fada highlighted that Abuja’s laid-back vibe contrasts with the more outgoing crowd in Lagos, where a proposal took place at her restaurant last year.
Fada also stressed the role of financial stability in sustaining relationships, especially where children are involved. Drawing from her own childhood experiences, she said, “Relationship without money, or marriage without money… if the couple doesn’t survive it, the kids will suffer.”
Addressing misconceptions about love in the entertainment industry, she noted, “People think that because you act in love scenes, something is happening off-screen. That’s not true. I have refused roles that would create unnecessary problems because I have kids and want to protect my family.”
Reflecting on her personal journey, Fada admitted that she once prioritised romance over her career but learned to strike a balance. She also spoke about learning to relinquish control in her marriage, saying it allowed her to enjoy her femininity while letting her husband lead.
On the nature of love, she likened it to nurturing a flower. “You have to find love first, then nurture it. You can’t build what you have not found,” she said. Regarding love at first sight, Fada shared that she no longer subscribes to it, emphasizing the importance of communication and understanding a partner’s intentions.
Through her reflections, Wofai Fada highlights a holistic approach to relationships, where thoughtfulness, stability, and communication form the foundation of lasting love.
