Nigerian music stars Wizkid and Asake have sparked excitement across the Afrobeats scene after releasing a surprise collaborative single, ‘Jogodo,’ ahead of their upcoming joint EP titled REAL (Vol. 1).
The track appeared in the early hours of today on streaming platforms without prior announcement, serving as the first official release from the project scheduled to drop on January 23, 2026. The EP marks the first time both artistes are committing to a full collaborative body of work, following years of successful musical partnerships.
‘Jogodo’ leads the four-track project, which also includes ‘Turbulence,’ ‘Iskolodo,’ and ‘Alaye.’ The early release was not previously announced by either artiste, making its arrival a surprise for fans and industry observers.
REAL (Vol. 1) represents a continuation of Wizkid and Asake’s growing creative relationship, built on their distinct but complementary sounds. The project brings together Wizkid’s smooth, melodic approach with Asake’s energetic, street-influenced delivery, reflecting both artistes’ influence within modern Afrobeats.
The duo’s partnership first gained attention with ‘MMS,’ a track from Asake’s album Lungu Boy, which went on to receive a Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
They later expanded their collaborations with ‘Bad Girl’ on Wizkid’s album Morayo, as well as ‘Getting Paid,’ which also features Skillibeng and Sarz. These releases established a musical chemistry that eventually led to the decision to create a joint project.
With the release of ‘Jogodo,’ Wizkid and Asake officially begin the rollout of REAL (Vol. 1), a project many fans view as one of the most anticipated collaborations in recent Afrobeats history.
As the full EP approaches its January 23 release date, expectations continue to grow around what the duo’s first complete joint effort will contribute to Nigeria’s evolving music landscape.
