Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere says teenage prospect Ethan Nwaneri has “stepped up another level” this season despite limited first-team opportunities.
The 17-year-old made 26 appearances and scored four goals last term, earning a new long-term deal in the summer. But increased competition following the arrivals of Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke has restricted him to just one start so far — in the Carabao Cup win at Port Vale.
“Ethan has got magic and people are starting to see that a little bit more now,” Wilshere, who coached him at Arsenal’s academy, told newsmen.
“I played him wide, deeper, even as a nine. But one thing people haven’t seen much yet is his dribbling. He can get at players and beat them. I’d like to see him centrally at some point.”
Nwaneri became the Premier League’s youngest debutant in 2022, aged 15 years and 181 days.
