The Unity Advocacy Group (UAG) has praised the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for their commendable discipline and respect, noting that these qualities are crucial to their success in peacekeeping missions and their recognition on the global stage.
The group’s convener, Ifeanyi Aigbedion, in a Statement, expressed these sentiments on Thursday, responding to an incident involving Minister Nyesom Wike and naval officer Lieutenant Commander Yerima in Abuja. The UAG described this interaction as unfortunate but highlighted the officer’s commendable conduct during the situation.
“The incident between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Lieutenant Commander Yerima at a disputed site in Abuja is regrettable, particularly considering that both individuals report to a common authority in the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces,” Aigbedion remarked.
He continued to commend the high level of discipline exhibited by the young naval officer, emphasizing that his demeanor during the altercation reflects the admirable qualities that have garnered respect for troops both domestically and internationally.
“The conduct displayed by the officer is a testament to the character of our Armed Forces, led by Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede, who instills a culture of discipline and respect for established authorities,” Aigbedion noted.
The UAG expressed confidence that the AFN, under the current Chief of Defence Staff, will persist in demonstrating respect towards duly constituted authorities and the President, Bola Tinubu.
In conclusion, UAG urged all Nigerians to continue supporting the troops, acknowledging their sacrifices for the sake of peace, unity, and stability in the nation. “Our troops deserve our encouragement and support for their unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation,” the group asserted.
