The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues to reel from internal divisions as the rival factions led by Kabiru Turaki and Nyesom Wike issued separate disclaimers, each declaring that certain members of the opposing camp are no longer recognized as party members.
The Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) published a notice identifying 11 politicians it said had been expelled during the party’s elective convention held in Ibadan from November 15–16. The list included prominent figures such as Nyesom Wike, Samuel Anyanwu, Ayodele Fayose, Umar Bature, Kamaldeen Ajibade, Mao Ohuabunwa, George Turnah, Dan Orbih, Austine Nwachukwu, Mon’d Abdulrahman, and Abraham Amah. The document, signed by Turaki as national chairman, carried photographs of the expelled members and warned that “any interactions or representations made by these expelled members are not authorised by our great party.”
The disclaimer further cautioned that anyone engaging with the listed individuals “does so at their own peril.” The notice followed the formal issuance of expulsion certificates in Abuja after Umar Damagum handed over to Turaki.
Turaki explained that the move was part of efforts to restore discipline within the PDP. “These actions were necessary to cleanse our ranks of elements who have consistently worked against the PDP’s interests, including holding parallel congresses, sponsoring litigations, and canvassing votes for opposing parties,” he stated.
He added, “With these certificates, the affected individuals are free to align with any political platform of their choice, but they can no longer claim membership of the PDP. The party must now focus on rebuilding and consolidating ahead of the next general election.”
The Wike-led faction, in turn, has also released counter-statements, insisting that Turaki’s actions are unauthorised and politically motivated, signaling that the internal battle for control of the PDP is far from over.
