The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party will surprise Nigerians in the 2027 general elections by proving that it remains a formidable political force despite ongoing internal challenges.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said the party’s National Convention, scheduled for March 29 and 30, will proceed as planned, stressing that reconciliation among aggrieved members will continue even after the gathering.
Wike also dismissed the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by the Tanimu Turaki group, maintaining that it poses no threat to the planned convention.
Speaking on Friday night after inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja, the designated venue for the convention, Wike said internal healing within the party is a continuous process that cannot stop party activities.
“The PDP will surprise Nigerians in 2027. People should not underestimate the strength of this party. The convention will hold as scheduled, and reconciliation will continue afterward because unity-building is an ongoing process,” he said.
He emphasized that while differences may exist within the party, they should not prevent the PDP from moving forward with critical democratic processes.
Wike was accompanied during the inspection by Okezie Ikpeazu, Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee; Mao Ohuabunwa; Samuel Anyanwu; members of the National Caretaker Working Committee, and several senior party stakeholders.
Also present were former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche, Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Ferdinand Alabraba, and other party leaders.
The FCT minister reiterated that legal actions surrounding internal party disputes would not derail preparations for the convention, adding that the PDP remains focused on strengthening its structures ahead of future elections.
According to him, the convention will serve as a critical platform for repositioning the party and demonstrating its readiness for the political contests ahead.
