Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has cautioned Nigerians against making unguarded statements about President Bola Tinubu, stressing that they are “fortunate” to have a leader committed to the rule of law.
Speaking at the flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1, which links Wuye District to Ring Road II in Abuja, Wike condemned what he described as a rising culture of “abusing the President with impunity” on social media.
Addressing concerns raised by resident doctors over unpaid allowances and poor health infrastructure, the minister said protests were acceptable in a democracy but warned against attempts to blackmail the government.
He noted that the 2025 budget made significant provisions for healthcare, with N25 billion allocated to capital projects. According to him, issues relating to doctors’ employment and allowances would be resolved in line with due process.
“If the Permanent Secretary, Treasury, brings the bill now, they will be paid. But everything must follow due process,” Wike assured.
Wike further explained that the ongoing road project was designed not for personal gain but to improve residents’ welfare and boost economic opportunities in the capital city.
