The popular West African party concept La Sunday made its debut in Kampala on Thursday last week, drawing large crowds to Silo 15 Lounge and Bar in an event marked by music, fashion, and high-energy performances.
Originally from Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, La Sunday has built a reputation as a premium lifestyle and entertainment experience. Its introduction to Uganda, organised by La Vie Events in partnership with luxury tequila brand Don Julio, signals the growing influence of cross-continental party culture in Kampala’s nightlife scene.
Despite its name, the event was held on Holy Thursday, taking advantage of the extended Easter weekend. The timing was intentional, aimed at tapping into increased social activity during the holiday period.
Revellers began arriving as early as midafternoon, with many embracing the event’s emphasis on fashion and self-expression. A lineup of local DJs, including Ames, Ssesse, Melvyn, Vanns and Don Julio, opened the event with a mix of Afro-house and Afro-electronic sounds, keeping the crowd engaged and active on the dance floor.
The highlight of the night came with performances from international acts Mask On and Black Charles, whose sets brought a blend of genres ranging from Coupé-Décalé and Amapiano to Gqom and soulful house.
Their back-to-back performance stood out for its dynamic transitions and ability to maintain crowd energy. La Sunday’s Kampala debut adds to a growing trend of international entertainment brands entering the local market, reflecting the city’s status as a key destination for nightlife and cultural events in the region.
