Werder Bremen sporting director, Clemens Fritz, has said the club is doing everything possible to help Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, rediscover his best form.
Fritz made the remarks following Bremen’s 1-0 home victory over St. Pauli in the Bundesliga at the weekend, where Boniface came on as a substitute in the 80th minute but missed a clear chance to seal the win in stoppage time.
Speaking during an intetrview, Fritz said the focus should not be on the missed opportunity but on how Boniface seizes his chances at the club.
“He has to be aware that Werder is an opportunity for him – because there will also be a time after Bremen and Leverkusen,” Fritz said.
He added that the Nigeria international would receive full support from the club in his bid to regain top form.
“It is our goal to get him into the best possible shape – because then he will be incredibly valuable to us,” Fritz stated.
Addressing concerns over Boniface’s social media posts, Fritz said there was no issue as long as they aligned with the club’s values.
“I’d say we’ve all stood in front of abstract art in a gallery and wondered what the artist was trying to tell us. We at Werder ask ourselves the same thing about him,” he said jokingly.
Fritz also praised Boniface’s attitude within the team, noting: “When you see him in the locker room, he always has a smile on his face.”
Boniface joined Werder Bremen on the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window after a proposed move to AC Milan fell through.
