The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final of the African playoffs for the 2026 World Cup after DR Congo sealed a dramatic late victory over Cameroon.
DR Congo defeated Cameroon 1–0 in their semi final at the Al Barid Stadium in Rabat on Thursday, progressing thanks to a stoppage time finish from Chancel Mbemba. The Congolese defender spiked the ball past Andre Onana from a corner in the ninety first minute to decide what had been a cagey and tense contest.
The win moves DR Congo within touching distance of their first World Cup appearance since 1974, when the country competed under the name Zaire.
Nigeria advanced to the final after overpowering Gabon 4–1 in extra time. Victor Osimhen scored twice, while Chidera Ejuke and Akor Adams added a goal each as the Super Eagles surged past their opponents.
The two finalists will meet on Sunday at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, with the winners claiming Africa’s sole place in the intercontinental playoff.
