Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney believes his ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo will not hang up his boots until he reaches the 1,000-goal milestone in his illustrious career.
The 40-year-old Portuguese star, who currently plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, has already netted 950 career goals and continues to represent Portugal at the international level.
Speaking about Ronaldo’s incredible longevity, Rooney said:
“One hundred per cent, he’s not retired before he’s scored one thousand. It’d be great for him as well if he does that and I’m sure over the next couple of years he’ll be playing with his son alongside him, so I think that’s a big thing as well for him.”
Rooney and Ronaldo were part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s dominant Manchester United side, winning three Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in 2008.
If achieved, Ronaldo’s 1,000-goal milestone would cement his legacy as one of football’s greatest-ever goal scorers.
