Kwara United Technical Adviser Suleiman Ashifat has pointed to unfortunate injury setbacks as the primary reason behind his team’s 3-1 defeat to the People’s Elephant (Enyimba International FC) on Sunday.
The match, played at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba, saw the Harmony Boys struggle after key personnel were sidelined just before the game began.
Suleiman revealed that the team was forced to make unplanned tactical adjustments after two regular starters sustained injuries during the pre-match warm-up.
“We had to change our game pattern a few minutes into the match because two of our regular players, including midfielder Philip Ozor and one defender, sustained injuries during the warm-up,” Suleiman told Kwara United’s media.
The technical adviser acknowledged the unfortunate nature of the defeat but promised a swift regrouping to ensure better results in forthcoming matches.
“Football is like that sometimes. We will go back, prepare, and regroup for our next game.”
The defeat means Kwara United dropped to 12th place on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table with 21 points after 17 matches, while Enyimba moved up to 8th place with 23 points.
