Nigerian singer and songwriter, Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje, has revealed that financial stability is a non-negotiable factor in her choice of a life partner.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old artist said she cannot date or marry a man who is still struggling to find his footing financially.
Waje explained that at this stage in her life, she’s no longer interested in “building” with a partner from scratch, noting that her expectations and priorities have evolved with age.
“I can’t marry someone who is not successful, and here’s why, I’m not in my 20s, so we’re not growing together,” she said. “A man leads by selling aspirations to me. I need to see him lead and inspire me to grow. If he can’t do that, we can’t be partners.”
She further emphasized that beyond success, faith and emotional intelligence are key qualities she seeks in a man.
The mother of one also disclosed that she prefers not to date younger men, explaining that such relationships could lead to constant friction.
“We will have issues,” Waje admitted. “I’m very pragmatic, and sometimes I have to check myself even with my friends and siblings. If it were a younger husband, he’d get tired, I’d end up treating him like my child.”
Waje’s candid remarks have stirred conversations online, with many fans weighing in on her perspective about maturity, ambition, and partnership in relationships
