Reigning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) champions and 10-time title holders, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, have resumed training at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, ahead of the return leg of their final qualifying tie against the Benin Republic for the 2026 WAFCON.
After camping for nearly a week in Lomé, Togo, where they played and won the first leg 2–0 on Friday, the Falcons returned to Nigeria on Saturday via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, before settling in Abeokuta for preparations.
Midfielder Deborah Abiodun shone in the first leg, providing two assists, as Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo fired the Nigerian side to a comfortable away victory.
Coach Justine Madugu’s side will hold another training session on Monday (today), as they look to seal their qualification for Morocco 2026 and defend the continental title they won earlier this year.
The Super Falcons claimed a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco in July, staging a remarkable comeback from two goals down to defeat the hosts 3–2 in the final.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Dominique Rosa Hanjavola from Madagascar as the centre referee for Tuesday’s clash in Abeokuta. She will be assisted by Claris Simango (Zimbabwe) and Hasimbola Rasoloniaina (Madagascar), with Grace Gimo (Zimbabwe) as the fourth official. Christine Ziga (Ghana) will serve as match commissioner, while Ndeye Fatou Seye (Senegal) acts as referee assessor.
Across the continent, the WAFCON qualifying race is heating up — Zambia, Ghana, Mali, Kenya, and Algeria all recorded first-leg wins, while Angola vs. Malawi and Senegal vs. Ivory Coast ended in stalemates.
