Veteran Nigerian musician Innocent Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, has been hospitalised after battling a prolonged illness for over two and a half years.
The condition, which has left him bedridden and struggling financially, was highlighted in a video shared by Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod on Facebook. In the clip, Daddy Fresh is seen in a hospital bed, appearing weak and disoriented.
Afod’s post urged public attention, stating, “Daddy Fresh must not die, one of Nigeria’s finest artists is in a terrible condition.”
In the video, Daddy Fresh struggles to recognise Afod, expressing disbelief at the visit. He described his ordeal, revealing that he has suffered hallucinations and multiple health issues, including kidney and liver complications, neuropathy, and eye problems, one of which has resulted in partial blindness.
“I started hallucinating, seeing people, those I know and those I don’t. My blood level is very low, and I need immediate blood transfusions,” he said, adding that he also faces a possible eviction due to unpaid rent.
Despite his challenges, Daddy Fresh remains hopeful, believing that Afod’s visit is a positive sign. Afod contributed some money during the visit and appealed to Nigerians and the entertainment community for financial and moral support.
“This is Daddy Fresh. He has been down with sickness for over three years. We need your support. Nigerians, entertainers, the music industry – let’s keep him alive,” Afod said.
Daddy Fresh previously shared his struggles in February 2024, revealing that he had been partially incapacitated for nearly 30 months and expressed hope for recovery.
Fans and well-wishers are now being called upon to assist the music icon, who remains a significant figure in Nigeria’s entertainment history.
