Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has sent a strong message to Arsenal and the rest of the Premier League, insisting the Reds will not surrender their title ambitions despite Sunday’s 3–0 loss to Manchester City.
The defeat at the Etihad — marked by Erling Haaland’s opener, Nico Gonzalez’s well-timed second and Jeremy Doku’s brilliant finish — dropped Liverpool to eighth on the log, while City moved up to second on Pep Guardiola’s milestone 1000th game as a manager.
Liverpool briefly thought they had equalised before half-time, but Van Dijk’s header was chalked off for offside. Still, the skipper believes the champions remain firmly in the fight.
“It’s about finding consistency and carrying on. Now we go to our countries, stay fit and be ready for a big run after,” Van Dijk said.
“We are not going to give up whatsoever. We are in November and we are ready for a long season and a big fight.”
His comments come just hours after manager Arne Slot urged the team to focus on improving results before thinking about the title race.
But Van Dijk’s message is clear: Liverpool may be down the table, but they are not backing out of the championship battle.
