ValueJet Airlines is set to commence scheduled commercial flight operations from the newly constructed Gateway International Airport (GWI) in Ogun State, with its inaugural flights beginning Monday, October 7, 2025.
This marks a major milestone for the state-of-the-art airport, following its recent regulatory approval by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
In a statement released on Friday, Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Media and Strategy, confirmed that ValueJet will operate twice weekly flights from GWI to Abuja.
“This follows the green light given to the state-of-the-art airport by regulatory agencies,” Akinmade said.
According to the airline’s schedule:
- Outbound flights from GWI to Abuja will depart at 8:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, arriving in Abuja at 9:45 a.m.
- The return leg from Abuja will take off at 4:00 p.m., landing at GWI by 5:15 p.m.
Flight tickets will be available for purchase from September 25, accessible online, through travel agents, and at ticket counters located inside the Gateway International Airport.
The launch of commercial flights at GWI is expected to ease air travel for passengers in Ogun, Ibadan, and parts of Lagos, offering an alternative to the congested Lagos airports.
“Members of the business and industrial sectors, contractors, bankers, government officials and leisure travelers are particularly eager to take off and arrive at GWI, from where they can easily connect Lagos and other parts of the country,” Akinmade added.
The commencement of operations follows the airport’s receipt of an aerodrome operational permit in August 2025. The NCAA’s approval came after a comprehensive technical inspection, on-site verification, and a successful audit of facilities.
With world-class infrastructure and proximity to major business hubs, the Gateway International Airport is poised to become a critical aviation gateway for Nigeria’s southwest corridor.
