There have been six different winners of the last six MotoGP races. Punters who juggle statistics will be calculating the chances of a seventh in a row when the Valencian Community Grand Prix takes place this weekend at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Cheste, Spain.
With Marc Marques winning 11 of the first 16 GPs of 2025 – and clinching the championship early on – the season had become a one-man show and lost a lot of its edge. That changed dramatically when Marquez shattered his right shoulder in a crash and was sidelined for the rest of the term. Suddenly everyone and his cousin were winning.
The 2024 world champion Jorge Martin returns to action in the season’s finale in Valencia – after another injury absence in a calamitous year for the Spaniard – and it would be a fairytale if he could pull off victory on his Aprilia.
It’s a long-shot – 34.00 to be exact.
An Aprilia won in Portugal last weekend, in the hands of Marco Bezzecchi.
The recent MotoGP winners – Bezzecchi (2.75), Alex Marquez (2.75), Pecco Bagnaia (7.00), Fermin Aldeguer (13.00) and Raul Fernandez (67.00) – dominate bookmakers’ boards for a Valencia victory, yet another new face atop the podium is surely possible.
Pedro Acosta (5.00) would not be a surprise first-time winner.
In fact, the young Spaniard would be a fitting addition to the honour roll after a string of brave, battling performances on a KTM that’s been a beast to handle all year.
Others with outside chances of a win include Fabio di Giannantonio (29.10), Joan Mir (34.00) and Franco Morbidelli (51.00).
Acosta’s teammate, South African Brad Binder, has had a dismal time on the troublesome KTM but has shown some form lately and finished fifth in Portugal last week. Some of his legion of local fans will go for his 67.00 and a dream end to a nightmare season.
