The US Department of State has revoked more than 100,000 visas, including thousands issued to students and specialised workers, following encounters with US law enforcement for criminal activity.
The announcement was made in a post on X on Monday by the Department of State, describing the move as part of a broader effort to strengthen domestic security and immigration enforcement.
According to the statement, the revocations include “some 8,000 student visas and 2,500 specialized visas for individuals who had encounters with U.S. law enforcement for criminal activity.”
The department added: “We will continue to deport these thugs to keep America safe.”
The development signals a tougher stance by US authorities on visa holders linked to criminal cases, with officials indicating that further enforcement actions and deportations will follow as part of ongoing security measures.
