The United States ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, has invited American rapper Nicki Minaj for a conversation on the protection of persecuted Christians across the world.
Waltz’s invitation followed the rapper’s recent post on X (formerly Twitter), where she spoke out against the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
The development came shortly after former US President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)”, citing reports of targeted attacks and killings of Christians by Islamist groups.
According to reports, Trump also directed the US Department of Defense to prepare for “possible action” aimed at addressing the security threats posed by extremist groups in the region.
Reacting to Trump’s announcement, Nicki Minaj, who has received 12 Grammy nominations, took to social media to commend the religious freedom enjoyed in the US while condemning the alleged oppression of Christians in Nigeria.
Her post drew widespread attention, prompting Ambassador Waltz to publicly thank her for using her platform to highlight the issue.
“I would love to speak with you in more depth about what our administration is doing to protect Christians’ freedoms all over the world,” Waltz wrote.
“We can’t allow this to continue. Every sister and brother of Christ must band together and say, ‘Enough!’” he added.
The invitation marks a rare intersection of celebrity advocacy and international diplomacy, as Waltz seeks to leverage Minaj’s global influence to amplify awareness about religious persecution.
Neither Nicki Minaj nor her representatives have responded to the ambassador’s invitation as of press time.
