UNICEF has urged contractors managing the revitalisation of primary healthcare centres in Taraba State to carry out their work with professionalism, honesty, and dedication.
The Chief of UNICEF’s Bauchi Field Office, Nuzhat Rafique, made the call on Thursday in Jalingo during the official handover of selected PHC facilities by the Taraba State government to UNICEF, through the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bondiya Buma. The facilities were subsequently handed over to contractors for execution.
She also tasked chairmen of the beneficiary local government councils to take personal responsibility for the projects, ensuring timely completion and quality delivery.
According to UNICEF, Taraba State is among those with the highest number of healthcare facilities slated for revitalisation under the Bauchi Field Office initiative. Contractors, selected through a transparent process, are working across Ardo-Kola, Bali, Gassol, Karim-Lamido, Sardauna, and Zing local government areas.
Rafique emphasised that properly executed projects would significantly impact women and children, potentially saving lives, and urged all stakeholders to ensure completion within the three-month timeframe, with full delivery expected by March 2026. The initiative is funded by the Global Fund.
Commissioner Buma commended UNICEF and the Global Fund for their support and transparency, and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for contractors. He also called on facility managers to cooperate fully to ensure timely project completion.
The Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Nuhu Tukura, praised UNICEF and the Global Fund for their continued support and urged media practitioners to sustain coverage of the state government’s health sector initiatives.
Representatives of Dari Investment and Cycle Gate Engineering, speaking on behalf of the contractors, assured stakeholders of their commitment to delivering quality projects that will improve healthcare services and benefit women and children across Taraba State.
