A convicted child killer in the United Kingdom, Ian Huntley, who was serving a life sentence, has died following an assault at a maximum-security prison in England.
Police said Huntley sustained serious injuries after being attacked at the prison and later died in hospital. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.
Huntley was jailed in 2003 for the murders of 10-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire, in 2002, a case that shocked the United Kingdom and led to major changes in child protection procedures.

The Ministry of Justice described the murders as one of the most disturbing cases in the country’s history and said its thoughts remain with the victims’ families.
Authorities confirmed that prosecutors will consider whether to bring charges in connection with the prison assault.
