Nigerian content creator Peter Ugochukwu Okafor, popularly known as Ugo Eaglet, has described his decision to leave Europe and return to Nigeria as the best choice of his life.
In a recent Instagram post, Eaglet shared that the high cost of living in Austria, where he previously resided, had become overwhelming. He detailed the financial strain of paying €1,700 for rent, €240 for electricity, and €400 for health insurance every month, among other expenses.
“These expenses were just too much. I’m not discouraging anyone from travelling, you have to travel to understand,” he said. “But when you travel and make it, come back to your home country. Instead of paying unnecessary bills there, come back and invest in Nigeria.”
Eaglet noted that these rising costs eventually made life abroad unsustainable, prompting his decision to move back home.
He also addressed a common dilemma among Nigerians in the diaspora, claiming that many men above 50 secretly wish to return home but often face resistance from their spouses.
“Such conversations usually spark conflict in many marriages,” he explained.
The content creator, however, praised his wife Jenny Slimzy for her support and understanding throughout the decision-making process.
“Anywhere you go, I will follow you. Honey, what are we even still doing here? I’m even bored here, let’s go back to our country,” he quoted her as saying.
“I thank God for giving me a caring, loving and understanding wife. Jenny Slimzy is the best thing that ever happened to me,” he added.
Since returning to Nigeria, Eaglet said he has been living more comfortably, free from the financial pressures of Europe.
“Coming back to Nigeria is the best decision I made this year. Now I sleep like a baby, no more unnecessary bills or expenses,” he said.
Eaglet is now encouraging other Nigerians abroad to consider returning home, invest locally, and build a life without the weight of Europe’s costly lifestyle.
