If Kampala has a heartbeat, it surely beats on two wheels, the ever-present boda boda.
Buzzing through the city like bees, these fearless riders weave through traffic, ferrying schoolchildren in the morning, livestock by midday, and freshly cooked meals by evening. No job is too big, no task too small.
The boda boda is Uganda in motion, full of ingenuity, resilience, and hustle. To mark its 60th anniversary, Uganda Waragi has chosen to celebrate this unmistakable spirit of Uganda by partnering with SafeBoda, a community that embodies the creativity and determination of everyday Ugandans.
“We chose to celebrate with the boda boda community because they are an integral part of our way of life, a true reflection of Uganda’s creativity and hustle,” said Hilda Aguti, marketing manager for mainstream spirits at Uganda Breweries Limited.
“Just like Uganda Waragi, they connect us; they move us; they are part of what binds us together as Ugandans. Our 60th anniversary is not just a celebration, but a reaffirmation that we will always be the spirit of Uganda.”
Across Kampala, the celebrations reached the city’s unsung heroes, the people who keep its pulse alive every day. In Wandegeya, salon women laughed and chatted between braids and blow-dries as they received surprise gift hampers, small tokens of appreciation for the hands that make Ugandans look and feel their best.
Not far away, Sula Birungo, the celebrated kikalaayi chicken master, filled the air with his unmistakable aroma, while Jib the Rolex Guy worked his sizzling roadside pan, rolling up Uganda’s favourite street delicacy, the humble rolex, a meal that fits every craving, any time of day.
Through these gestures, Uganda Waragi’s campaign reminds Ugandans that its story, much like the boda boda’s, is one of movement, connection, and everyday ingenuity. Both, in their own way, capture the restless, creative, and unbreakable spirit that defines Uganda.
