A delegation from Tanzania’s Information and Communication Technologies Commission (ICTC) visited The National Information Technology Authority – Uganda (NITA-U) last week for a three-day benchmarking mission aimed at deepening regional cooperation on data governance, privacy and cyber-security.
The group led by Sadath Kalolo, director of Professional Services at ICTC toured Uganda’s digital facilities visiting the National Data Center, the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Information Access Centre and the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO).
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by East African Community (EAC) ICT regulators to harmonize policies and build shared capacity so as to strengthen ICT capabilities within East Africa.
Speaking at press briefing at NITA-U headquarters, Eng. Kalolo stated that the benchmarking tour was aimed at giving them a practical view of how Uganda is translating policy into operations “We want to adapt what works in Uganda to accelerate Tanzania’s digital transformation and deliver better, safer services to our citizens.”
He said “Collaboration and knowledge exchange are key to strengthening our regional digital ecosystem. By working together, we build a foundation for innovation and growth that benefits our communities and economies
Additionally, he commended Uganda’s approach to data protection and ICT regulation “we are very interested in learning how some of these strategies can be adapted and implemented in Tanzania.”
This visit marks a significant milestone in fostering a deeper collaboration.” Caroline Mugisha, the director for Regulation and Legal Services, emphasized the need for the knowledge exchange.
