UEFA has imposed a three-game suspension on Bayern Munich forward Luis Díaz following the red card he received in the Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. The disciplinary ruling was confirmed after the European governing body classified the offence as “serious rough play” in relation to his challenge on PSG defender Achraf Hakimi.
The sending-off occurred during first-half stoppage time in Bayern’s 2-1 victory over the defending champions at the Parc des Princes. Prior to his dismissal, Díaz had already made a major impact on the encounter, opening the scoring with a brace before being ordered off.
As a result of the ban, the Colombia international will be unavailable for Bayern Munich’s away fixture against Arsenal on Wednesday, in addition to home matches against Sporting CP on December 9 and Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21.
Despite the setback, Bayern Munich remain in a strong position, currently leading the UEFA Champions League standings with a perfect record after four matches. The suspension, however, comes as a significant blow as the Bundesliga giants navigate a crucial phase of the competition.
