Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has called on mothers to prioritise their well-being, warning against losing their sense of self while caring for their families.
In a post shared on Instagram, the actress reflected on the emotional and physical demands of motherhood. She noted that many women give endlessly to their children and spouses, often neglecting their own needs in the process.
According to Ogbodo, constant sacrifice can lead to exhaustion, body shaming, and emotional strain. She said the changes that come with childbirth and parenting may affect a woman’s confidence and mental health if not properly managed.
“Sometimes, in the journey of motherhood, we lose ourselves,” she wrote. “We give birth. We nurture. We sacrifice. We pour into our children and our husbands until there is nothing left for us.”
She added that over time, fatigue can deepen and stress can quietly accumulate. Physical changes, she said, may alter self-image, while emotional struggles can strain relationships and communication.
Ogbodo stressed that motherhood should not come at the expense of identity, mental health, or self-worth. She encouraged women to invest in self-care, healing, and personal growth alongside their family responsibilities.
“Motherhood should not cost you your identity. It should not cost you your mental health. And it should not cost you your worth,” she stated, urging women to remember they are still deserving of care and softness.
Her message adds to ongoing conversations around maternal mental health and the importance of balancing family life with personal well-being.
