The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has tendered his resignation from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet following mounting controversy over the authenticity of his academic credentials.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed Nnaji’s resignation in an official statement on Tuesday.
For months, Nnaji had been enmeshed in a storm of allegations surrounding his purported degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.
Although he claimed to have graduated from UNN in 1975, the institution reportedly could not verify his academic records.
A two-year investigative report by PREMIUM TIMES revealed that Nnaji allegedly forged the documents he submitted to both President Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate during his ministerial screening and confirmation process.
Nnaji, who was named among the first batch of 28 ministerial nominees forwarded to the Senate in July 2023, had faced persistent scrutiny and public backlash over the integrity of his credentials — a controversy that ultimately culminated in his resignation.
