Nigerian music executive and talent manager, Ubi Franklin, has weighed in on the dynamic between Afrobeats superstars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, often described as the genre’s “Big 3.”
Speaking on a recent episode of the Afropolitan Podcast, Franklin suggested that it would be difficult for the three to collaborate on a project. According to him, their positions at the top of the industry naturally make them competitors rather than teammates.
“It would be difficult for Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy to come together,” he explained. “The environment they are in will make it difficult for them to work together. It’s like the rivalry between the top banks in Nigeria. In every industry, there is the Big 3.”
Franklin, however, clarified that their rivalry isn’t rooted in personal animosity. Using Davido, his close associate, as an example, he revealed that the singer has never spoken ill of Wizkid or Burna Boy in private.
“I will speak for Davido,” Franklin said. “I have never heard him, for once, say something bad about Wizkid or Burna Boy. And I’m sure it’s the same for them. But the environment makes it seem otherwise.”
His comments highlight the competitive nature of the Nigerian music scene, where fan bases and industry expectations often fuel narratives of rivalry among the country’s biggest stars.
