Security agencies in the United States are investigating reports of suspected gunfire near Lafayette Park, located across from the White House in Washington, D.C.
In a statement posted online on Sunday, the U.S. Secret Service said no injuries were reported and no suspect was found after an extensive search of the park and surrounding areas shortly after midnight.
President Donald Trump was at the White House over the weekend, while the residence did not immediately issue a comment on the incident. Authorities said White House operations continued normally, although security in the vicinity was stepped up.
Lafayette Park, which has been undergoing fencing and renovation works in recent weeks, was searched by law enforcement following the report.
The Secret Service said it is working in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Park Police to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
