South African singer Tyla has emerged winner of the Best African Music Performance category at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, further cementing her growing global profile.
She clinched the award with her song Push 2 Start, defeating a strong lineup of nominees that included Nigerian superstars Burna Boy, Davido and Ayra Starr, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s collaborative track Hope & Love.
The win marks Tyla’s second victory in the Best African Music Performance category. She previously made history in 2024 when she won the inaugural award with her breakout hit Water.
Introduced to celebrate and amplify African sounds on the global stage, the category continues to spotlight the continent’s expanding influence within the international music industry. Tyla’s latest win reflects the sustained momentum of African artistes across global charts and award platforms.
Beyond the competitive categories, the 68th Grammy Awards also paid tribute to Africa’s musical heritage by honouring legendary Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti with a Lifetime Achievement Award, underscoring the continent’s enduring cultural impact on world music.
Tyla’s back-to-back success reinforces her position as one of Africa’s most prominent contemporary voices, as African music continues to command growing recognition worldwide.
